As a girl who has never owned a pair of trainers (bad, I know) I always thought they were more suited to the ‘sporty type’ and didn’t really have a place in my wardrobe. I was so very wrong! I had an amazing opportunity to design my very own pair of Nike trainers at ASOS HQ with the Nike iD team and the lovely guys from Pendleton Woollen Mills. I picked out a pair of Roshe Runs on reccomendation of a friend who likened them to ‘walking on a cloud’ and he was spot on with that one. They are the most comfortable shoes that have ever graced my feet, they are so light, they fit perfectly and when I walk I can definitely notice a spring in my step. I think it has now started a trainer obsession because I’ve already started looking for my next pair.
Pendleton Woolen Mills in Oregon is most famous for their flannel check shirts and blankets but they recently teamed up with sports giants Nike for a special collab. After learning a brief history of Pendleton Wool (the old machinery is even still in use) we got our creative juices flowing. We looked at all the fabrics available to use and then each picked the style of Nike shoe that we wanted. We got to customise every little detail from the front, middle and back section of the shoe down to the lining, tongue and heel loops. We even got have them made even more unique by having our initials sticthed into the back on the shoe. I went for a light blue denim kind of shade wool base all over and opted for a contrasting bright coral swoosh (the Nike term for the tick). I then made the laces, eyelets, lining and tongue loops a light grey, the heel loop the same coral as the swoosh and then I opted for white stitching for my GLR initials on the back.
It was so fun to add all the unique details and see what colours worked and didn’t work. I had a few different options floating around before I settled upon these little lovlies. I had Gemma from the Nike iD team helping me too and she was an absolute star. We were able to pick some bits to go with our shoes courtesy of the amazing ASOS family. I picked these distressed skinny jeans which I love, I always gravitate towards plain skinny jeans so I thought I would go for something different for a change and I am glad I did. I also fell in love with this khaki coat, it’s a nice base colour to have in your wardrobe and goes with all sorts. This cosy scarf caught my eye and it’s even better in real life, you can wrap it round a couple of times and its so cosy and warm without being too bulky at all as it’s a soft fine knit. I also got a fluffy bag charm and pink faced gold watch which you can see in the pictures. I picked out some other gorgeous bits too but I haven’t worn them all at once so you can see them in forthcoming posts.
