Kalo Pasxa!! Saturday night out on a very busy weekend equals the fail safe LBD. It’s Easter here this weekend in Greece, It’s such a huge holiday and it brings everyone together family, friends, young and old.
It’s amazing to experience the way another culture celebrates it. It’s much bigger than Christmas to the Greeks.
A quick rundown of the pre-Easter traditions:
Friday night the villages have a very sombre parade where the brass band and choir (made up of the villagers and who are amazing FYI), followed by the entire village adding on to the end as they pass, make their way from one church to the other at the opposite end of the village. It’s sombre due to the fact it’s remembering when Jesus was crucified. I’m not a religious person but it can actually be quite moving to see and it kick starts the Easter weekend festivities.
Saturday night at about 11.15 the whole village makes their way up to the beautiful church up on the hill. Everyone takes candles that they light and pass the flame onto family and friends candles and wait for the stroke of midnight when it’s officially Easter Sunday.
The bells start ringing and fireworks are let off. It’s very similar to the stroke of midnight on NYE for us. Everyone turns to the person next to them gives them a hug, kiss and wishes them a happy Easter. It’s so endearing to see how everyone comes together and mixes, you get all ages socialising with each other which is just not something you see so much anymore.
It’s back to the family home for a big feast and the first bit of meat after most people have given it up for lent.
Then it’s the time a lot of people have waited for…the night out.
It’s a very busy night for clubs and bars. Everyone is in great spirits and this year I decided to rock a little black dress.
My LBD is from one of my faves Nasty Gal. I adore the simplicity of it and it’s made more interesting than a plain up and down bodycon LBD by detail on the neck and back. The simple strap and cut out detail just makes it slightly different. I really try to avoid black dresses if possible and they can easily be very boring and I just love colours and prints too much. I had tried on a few things but with the warm weather and a packed bar I thought this just worked perfectly. It’s an A line cut which makes it pretty flattering especially after the feast you pig out on before leaving the house.
I was going to wear a skinny waist belt as I rarely let loose things hang just as they are, I always find a cinched waist looks just that little bit better but I decided against it and took it off as I felt the dress really didn’t need anything extra. The dress does the talking and so there was no need for distractions like a belt or too much jewellery.
I went for a pair of my older but beloved Topshop Libby heels. I adore these but have so many heels that I’ve hardly worn them. They are like a brand new pair. They have a nice chunky platform and heel which I am always a fan of, boyfriend that’s 6’4″ means I get to wear killer heels all the time! perfect excuse to buy heels because technically I ‘need’ them!
I wore a brown based smokey eye with liquid eye liner and cat flicks and some bright pink Kate Moss for Rimmel lippy to pop against the dress.
I opted for a cream over-sized clutch as I didn’t want anything too fussy or detailed. The jacket of choice was a gorgeous blush pink blazer. It’s such a beautiful colour and gave me just the right amount of colour I was going for.
I did a bit of simple nail art on Friday afternoon as I had a spare hour. I went for a marble effect using white, pink and blue. I like how it turned out and how every nail is different. If you’d be interested in a tutorial post on how to do it then let me know!
Hope you all had a great weekend! Thank you to everyone who voted for me in the Company Magazine Blog Awards. Voting closed yesterday so now it’s a waiting game….with my fingers and toes crossed that is!
